Mary Grace Nichol
I am a children’s entertainer, art teacher and muralist. I started my interest in art at a very young age. My Mother and Grandmother owned a Ceramic Shop so I used to assist them with classes in clay sculpting. I really grew to love art. So at the age of 12, my mother offered me the opportunity to take private lessons with Cheri Mohn Studios in North Lima. There I learned all subject matter including, oils, acrylics, pastels, water color, drawing and colored pencils, scratch board and more. I developed the desire while in High School to attend the Mahoning County Joint Vocational School Commercial Arts Program. It was there that I really found my own unique style and ability to express myself through art. I earned the prestigious student of the year and a Partial Scholarship to attend the Art Institutes of Art Programs. Following my education, I worked for many companies as a freelance illustrator. I used to paint windows for companies. They asked me if I would commission a mural project. I did one and loved it so much that I painted murals for many years. I also taught school aged children, age 5 to high school, special interest art, after school and summer arts programs. I had the opportunity to work in theater and prop and costume design. After going through breast cancer, I put the murals on hold and decided to focus more of my energies into teaching paint parties and private students. I have been teaching as a Recreational Program teacher for about 11 years and 3 years teaching students at Batavia Studios. I also an Assistant Preschool Teacher at Solid Foundations Academy where I assist in the Arts and Crafts portion of the curriculum. I truly love to see talent develop and flourish under my direction. My kids always have the option to choose subject matter and composition theme. I believe this style of teaching keeps it new and exciting for the student.
